Shrimp Effort Management

Updates on effort levels in the Wash Shrimp fisheries can now be found on the Eastern IFCA website, under the ‘Shrimp Effort Updates’ tab.

The Shrimp Permit Byelaw 2018 came into force on 31 May 2022, and is intended to enable the Authority to manage shrimp fisheries throughout the district to ensure the fishery operates in a way that does not cause environmental harm.

Within the Wash and North Norfolk Coast SAC (accessed with ‘Category 1’ shrimp permits), this involves a limitation on the number of trips that can be taken during the course of a year (1 August to 31 July) to prevent damage to the environment.

These updates will provide information on total allowable effort, number of trips taken during the year, and any long-term impacts or risks of existing effort levels. They are intended to keep shrimp fishing industry informed on the number of trips taken throughout the year and the potential impacts on effort available in future years.
